Some compact camera manufactures make a wide range of accessories for their models. Check with your manufacturer's website to see if they make close-up filters that can screw on the end of the camera's lens. Some compacts actually can take the smallest filters for a DSLR.

The lens attaches to your camera by threading onto the filter threads of your standard lens. It is intended to be used primarily with a telephoto lens with a focal length of 70mm-300mm. The Canon 500D Close-up Lens works by increasing the magnification of the lens effectively getting closer to the subject.
