The Digital Video Camera has to capture an image and reproduce it in video format. The image captured by the lens is digitized by a device kept behind the lens, a CCD (charge coupled device). A charged coupled device is a light sensitive integrated circuit that stores and displays the data of an image. Data is transmitted in such a way that each pixel (picture element) in the image is converted into an electrical charge, the intensity of which is related to a color in the spectrum. A CCD in a camera improves resolution compared with older technologies. So, before buying, check if the camera has CCD in it.

An IP security video camera uses the internet protocol for the image data transmission along with the controlling of the signals over an Ethernet link. These IP cameras are popularly known as network cameras and are useful for surveillance and form a part of the surveillance system.
